Student Living Nominated or Cardiff Property Award
Student Living by James Douglas, has been recently formed following the acquisition of the Student Union owned letting agency, Glamorgan Student Lettings. The lettings agency, based in the Treforest Campus of the University of South Wales, had approached James Douglas. They were looking for a reputable and approachable brand within the area that could adopt their portfolio whilst maintaining the same principles and ethos that the agency had.
In order to provide the best possible service for the student market, James Douglas created a secondary brand called, ‘Student Living’ specifically for the students, so that our student-friendly properties are more easily identified within our larger property portfolio. We are also continuing to work with the Union to provide educational material for Housing Welfare in order to help prepare students who are moving away from home for the first time.
Glamorgan Student Lettings has never charged agency fees to students, however, following the Tenant Fee Ban, all agents are now unable to charge these fees. However, the new Student Living brand upholds the promise of not charging fees, where prospective tenants will not even have to put down a holding deposit to reserve a student property. We hope that less up-front costs will help students choose the right property to live in, without feeling pressured to financially commit to a property, confident that our standard of properties are good enough that tenants won’t change their mind!
Following the acquisition, James Douglas now operates across three branches covering Cardiff, Treforest and Pontypridd and our sister company Seraph Property Management who manage these tenancies is now one of the largest independent property management firms in South Wales. Due to this expansion, James Douglas was recognised for ‘Best Deal’ in the Cardiff Property Awards 2019. We are delighted to be shortlisted for this nomination with the awards dinner being held on Friday 8th November 2019, at the Exchange Hotel.
